I know ADHD and a brain injury aren't the same thing, but they do share some similarities in how they can affect thinking, memory, attention, and day-to-day life.
I was diagnosed with ADHD later in life, and for the first couple of years I was angry. I kept wondering what my life would have been like if I had been diagnosed earlier. I thought about all the years of self-doubt, frustration, and feeling like I just had to work harder than everyone else.
Then, over time, my perspective changed. I realized that even though I struggled, those experiences shaped who I am today. My brain found ways to adapt, I developed coping strategies, and I learned a lot about myself. While I wish I had those answers sooner, I'm also grateful for the resilience and skills I have now.
I don't know if this resonates with you, but I hope that as you continue to recover and get the treatment you deserved, you'll one day be able to look back and see not only what was lost, but also the strength you've gained along the way.
