I think it’s also worth acknowledging that these are PERCEPTIONS of masculinity. Like a peacock showing its big beautiful colors saying “look how loud and amazing I am”. Told from a very young age that these things are signs of the big strong handsome man that will protect you even though in practice that man would throw you under the bus to protect himself. I have a good friend that gets dreamy eyed every time the worst human being you’ve ever seen walks by because he’s “big manly man” who would let her ☠️in a parking lot instead of getting the healthcare she needs.

I am what some would probably see as a “highly masculine man”. I am former military (12 years) southern, 6’1”, 225lbs, I work out religiously, hunt, fish, camp, love NFL, and I’m a pastor. However, I am SUPER Progressive. I am pro choice and would probably land further to left of the DSA right now. But I do feel super lonely in this.

I work blue collar. Wear a lot of filson and Levi’s. Love football. Train Muay Thai several nights a week. Lift. Bbq on the weekend every so often. Have a red beard. Been told some of my behavior is daddy-ish. Love hunting. Grew up on a mountain. But. I lean way left. Try to support working people as much as I can. Am raising a daughter not to be someone’s wife, but a strong, self possessed woman. I don’t know where these other men like me are but I’ve been on an island for a while and could use a few buddies. Every guy I meet is either put off by the fact I think Palestine has a right to exist or that I too choose the bear, because I have bear tags and my grandma always said bear fat makes the best pie crust.
