as a filipino, i expected this. spain did the philippines in with their colonization and assimilation into christianity. the generational trauma still lingers, yet i got lucky as my parents still accept me after i told them i don’t want to be catholic anymore. but still, it’s not an excuse, our culture is so heavily influenced by christianity, american imperialism, and how we have been treated under different regimes for so long. this all lead to a lack of progressive laws (u can’t divorce, etc…) and a really hyper-consumer, misogynistic, socially-homogenous-dependent-conservative-society. it sucks. thanks to how i grew up, i got to learn (hopefully enough) in hopes to stop that trauma with me :)
