This is what ultimately ended my relationship with my mother. I was in survival mode after a cancer recurrence, working full time and still helping our kids navigate life and I found out that my mother was talking about me behind my back. Instead of asking if I was okay and while I was confiding in her our struggles and financial problems, she was telling people how selfish I was for not coming to visit. (We live 6 hours apart) Mind you she was already retired at the time.
