@anthonypillarella: Replying to @scd_savior That math feels about right for me, but it's nowhere near as bleak as it sounds. #charisma #socialskills #meetingpeople #makingfriends #datingadvice
Me, immediately distracted by MTG 😮. Had to watch again to heat what you were saying this time xD

as a grown-up with a corporate job, I got stuck making my friends at work - I've met a lot of great friends there but it wasn't a good habit. I've had a great experience with time left! been doing it for over a year

IDK what has led society to treat acquaintance like sunk cost. You should try to get along with everyone; tolerate the people you can't, work with the people you can, and build relationships with people that have common goals. Human relationships really aren't that hard we just live in a toxic individualistic society

I’m very extroverted and have always found it extremely easy to interact with people and find common ground— what I’ve had to do as I’ve gotten older and more introspective and became familiar with recognizing many patterns in my experiences is actually STOP putting so much energy into forming relationships and learn to be more selective. I would just be friends with anyone and everyone and it doesn’t come natural to me to not in some way connect with everyone I come in contact with lol. However that has over 39 years left me burned out, overly cynical and in a lot of ways very empty. I always envied my shy, introverted older sister because she really only ever had like 2 friends— but those friends she’s kept for 30+ years and they have clearly had a mutually enriching and reciprocal relationship that has greatly brought joy into her life. Meanwhile I have a ton of “acquaintances” but until recently I had really no one to call in an emergency and the friends I had were always changing every 5-10 years. I am definitely aware that most of that if not all of it has to do with errors on my part. It’s just really interesting how different we all are and the different hurdles we have to navigate in having connection with others. :)

You end up learning more about yourself also which is probably more valuable.

Your videos have helped me tremendously thank you for doing what you do. I feel like I have changed a lot (for the absolute better) in the last year and I’d give 90% of that to your videos.

This was really eye opening for me cause I don't think I've ever talked to 40 new people in a single day, since like the first day of high school? If I were to meet (ie. introduce myself and share at least 1-2 sentences of conversation) more than 10-20 people I'd be absolutely exhausted. Maybe that's why social events give me so much anxiety? Cause the idea that so many people might actually initiate some kind of interaction is pretty terrifying.

it used to take me a long time to figure out if i'd get along with people (to be friends) and i would often brush it off if they said or did something (especially repeatedly) that didn't align with my values or that i didn't like. then, usually, at some point they would do something or say something that made me have to end the "friendship". but after meeting many people (classmates, coworkers, customers, friends of friends, etc.), i can confidently tell i dont align with people a few conversations in. for coworkers and people i have to see often, i just assume we get along unless told/shown otherwise. it it, unfortunately, a numbers game 😅
