Down Memory Lane 🔵❤️ A letter from Najjera ✍🏾 Tuesday, 15th September, 2026 The whole of last week and this week, many Ugandans, including our beloved “celebs,” have jumped onto the latest craze bandwagon of using AI to recreate beautiful photographs reminiscent of the 1970s and 1980s — a craze this mighty page wholeheartedly celebrates. But for me, this is not merely a passing craze. For years, I have consistently and religiously taken you back in time, narrating events, sharing memories and reminiscing about the good old days of the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s — those beautiful years when life seemed much simpler, more joyous and, in many ways, more enjoyable than the fast-paced life we live today. Those of you who have followed me for years can ably attest to this. There is something profoundly beautiful about looking back. Sometimes, when we revisit the past, even if only through an old photograph or a forgotten story, we are transported to a different world — a world where life moved at a gentler pace, people had time for one another, laughter came easily, and happiness was found in the simplest of things. Somehow, reminiscing about those olden days allows us to pause and reflect on how we lived our lives with much less of the stress and pressure that seem to define today's hurried existence. People in the past dressed modestly. They lived relatively stress-free lives, ate well, fed well, partied hard and, in my opinion, generally lived happier and more fulfilling lives. There may not have been many of the modern conveniences we have today, but somehow, we seemed to have something priceless — time, contentment and the joy of simply being alive. So, I too could not be left out of this craze! Here I am, dressed sharply and taking a nostalgic stroll through my old town of Ibanda in western Uganda, where I had gone to spend and enjoy Christmas with my next of kin. Just look at that photograph! It takes me back to a time when the cars on our roads were predominantly French-made Peugeots 403s, 404s and other European makes. Those cars were the pride of the day. They were beautiful, sturdy and seemed to have a character of their own. And then there was our beloved Independence Bar, located along Ibanda's High Street — one of the most popular hangout places of the time. Sadly, it is no more, but memories of those days remain deeply etched in our hearts. The road you see in the photograph was murram. There was no electricity in Ibanda at the time. We did not have the gadgets, social media, fast internet, air conditioning and countless conveniences that we now consider necessities. We had no smartphones to capture every moment, yet the moments themselves became memories that stayed with us for a lifetime. And perhaps that is why photographs like this one touch something deep inside us. They remind us not only of how we looked, dressed or travelled, but of who we were — and of a simpler Uganda that exists today mostly in our memories. When I look back at my own journey and see just how merciful and gracious God has been to me over all these years, I am forever grateful to Him. 🙏🏾 Many of our peers, village mates, friends and relatives who shared those beautiful years with us have sadly passed on. Others are today struggling with failing health. Some are no longer able to do the things they once enjoyed. Others have been grounded by circumstances beyond their control. But me? Here I am. I am healthy, I am still standing, and I am enjoying my life to the fullest. For that alone, I cannot thank God enough. It is moments like these that remind us to stop, look around and count our blessings. And sometimes, all it takes is one photograph — real or AI — to open the door to a beautiful past and remind us of the people we were, the lives we lived, the laughter we shared and the good old days we can never get back. Those were the days. Those were our days. And what beautiful days they were!  #jaqs_chronicles🔵❤️ #foryoupage #fyp #viral #fyp
