My mom first read GWTW in high school when the book was published in 1936. She gave it to me for my first read-through when I was 8, in the early '70s. I loved it, and thought it was so cool that the author (born in 1900) grew up around people who lived thru the Civil War. She tried to weave parts of their various memories of what the world was like then into her story. The book shines because of the characters, my fictional role models - Scarlett for her toughness, Melanie for her pure sweetness and empathy. Lessons learned from dozens of rereads of GWTW got me thru high school and college, and beyond. Kudos to you for recommending it!🥰🥰🥰
