@sharon.a.life: Don’t believe it for a min. It’s what kept me from getting the right help my whole life. I’d be a better mom and happier and healthier human if someone would have told me, SUFFERING LIKE THAT ISNT OKAY! It’s not. And we all deserve better. #MentalHealth #womenshealth #smashthepatriarchy #momguilt #motherhood
I just told my therapist today that growing up I was told to just be grateful for what I had and not complain and keep going keep moving forward. And because I’m now trying to teach my own kids appropriate coping skills I finally realized through my own burn out/adhd / people pleaser recovery journey that gratitude isn’t actually a coping skill.and that I myself might need better coping skills because I’m realizing that maybe I have just been masking and shoving things everything by down my whole life so that I didn’t look ungrateful 🤔 and that was a true light bulb moment for me.

It happens to almost every mother, but that doesn’t mean that you should just suffer in silence. It means that you should learn how to better your mental health and ease that guilt, not for others but for yourself. You should be the best person of yourself all the time, not just occasionally

Even more I think many women are trained that it is the expectation. One of my biggest issues with the mental load argument is that it tells young women that it’s expected of them and that if they don’t then nobody will and people will suffer if they’re lacking. This instills an unnecessary level of anxiety on women.

Know what my over self sacrificing mom who couldn’t say no did? Ended up hospitalized. You can’t, and shouldn’t, do it all

The same trope that comment under neurodivergent videos to say « I do this too and I’m not »… yes, we can all find ourselves doing one thing or two. But when it makes your life harder, you can do something about it

Then before we know it, it’s driven us into the ground and we end up with three autoimmune disorders and a lifetime of chronic illness. Ask me how I know.
