Jesus made it clear that they had replaced law with religion. It wasn’t that it was no longer applicable, “I don’t not come to destroy the law.” They were abusing the law. It wasn’t unlawful to carry a mat. That wasn’t the point of the sabbath.

We cannot miss this!!! The temple offered the law, priesthood, and the presence of God. Christ said that is all fulfilled in Him. The temple no longer had anything to offer.

He said Matt 22:37-39 the Law & the prophets hang on Christ Law: 1) love God with all your heart , all your soul and all your mind 2) love your neighbours as yourself.

Jesus didn't do away with the law and He said it, Matthew 5:17-18, there is a difference between the seremonial law and the moral law. The 10 commandments has never ceased and that includes the Sabbath law. Jesus healing people on the Sabbath doesn't mean it was done away with, He was illustrating, one can do a good deed on the Sabbath.
