Fierce Rejection of Albania: Arvanites have fiercely rejected the 'Albanian' tag for centuries. In their oldest traditional folk songs, they explicitly name Constantinople as their historical homeland, not Albania. 4). The 1821 Revolution: They were the backbone of the Greek War of Independence in 1821, fighting against Ottoman forces and Muslim Albanians to build the modern Greek state.
