People already don't know what consent is. This will set us back so much more. These books should have never been marketed as dark romance. They are horror. But because everything women write tends to be infantilised or shelved as romance, that helps muddy the waters even more because people think that just because there is romance in the name and a relationship in the book, it can be romanticised. Plus these books are often the first time straight women from more conservative and religious backgrounds are introduced to k I n k. Problem is, it's through books that represent them very badly.

I went to the “author’s” instagram and her dismissal about people’s valid concerns was so jarring. It made me realize that it’ll strengthen the belief that a woman’s no is actually a veiled yes. Men have justified sm pointing to media portrayals of what women supposedly want ( being forced onto)

I have this same issue with romance video games for women. They romanticise stalking, jealousy, control etc. Unfortunately most of the fans of this stuff don't care. I'm starting to think a lot of women desire to become children who are looked after by a male partner, they don't have desires for freedom and power which is why their fantasies don't include becoming powerful. It also made me realise how a lot of women want feminism to change how men treat them instead of wanting feminism to give them more power and freedom. They don't want to abolish patriarchy they want a version of it that "benefits" them that's why this dark romance stuff is so popular.

This should already never happen, but the author let men be involved. It went from bad to so much worse. Google the 50 Shades defense. This will be much worse.

There are multiple graphic SA scenes, not just one. I think this book in particular is not the actual problem, it is the symptom of one. Women are victimized on a large scale, so much so that they sometimes feel like they must romanticize their own pain in order to deal with it. I feel the same way about most romantasy books. They are just written so women are living out a benevolent patriarchy. The most common tropes are man is mean and grumpy to everyone except me, man is violent even with me but only because he loves me, man treats me like a possession but only because he loves me. Like so many of these books are just reworking the patriarchy in a way that is beneficial to the main character. Most books with male main characters and written by men NEVER have the man being victimized in these ways by women. Men just don’t think to write such books, they are not in love with their own victimization. Whether this movie comes out or not will not significantly change anything. It’s just another piece of media that reinforces the patriarchy. I personally hate this book and this author and the people that are so in love with and committed to defending a book that says nothing transgressive or radical about r*pe. Also the author is a MAGA conspiracy theorist, this book is QAnon fanfic lmao. Again just another symptom of a much bigger problem.
