He wants and needs contact more. Cage should be used as a haven for him to choose to go in and sleep or just to get some peace. If you are going around the house and this baby is literally locked up, he will protest. Encourage him in when he’s tired, leave door open and if you need to lie on the floor beside him until he nods off, so be it. When mine were small I spent sooo much time on the floor beside them, still do sometimes! Best of luck, they are very bright and will even enjoy your company whilst they nod off x

Surround the crate with an xpen so the pup can move about. They are a very smart breed and need enrichment. It they can move around more and have toys, they will be happier and settle down.

Dogs adapt. Even often stubborn dachshunds. Had a wonderful standard red for just two months shy of 17 years. He was in a large fenced enclosure in the garage from 6:30am-1pm, brought inside and placed in his indoor cage from 1pm-5:30pm. He was then brought back out to his enclosure until 9pm, before coming back inside where he stayed overnight until 6:30 the next morning. He enjoyed his space to roam, answer nature's calls, and just chill when he was in his outside pen. He relished his time indoors, where my folks always shared their bread with him at breakfast and afternoon snacks. He only ever cried like that when he needed to be taken out because he had to pee or poop already, or if something was physically bothering him.

yes don't lock them up, they don't like to be confined, if you don't want him/her to have free range in the whole house maybe just close him/her in the kitchen or bedroom

Cry out method. My mini dashaund does great in his crate and it’s his safe place. He still barks when we leave sometimes if he really wants to come but other than that he stops when we leave. Don’t Everyone saying don’t crate him. They like to eat everything and it’s for his own safety.

even though she sleeps with you, put her in the kennel at night, and as much as possible, even if its 5 minutes at a time, put her in , leave the room , dont let her out until sje stops barking, then let her out , itll teach her "oh, i get let out when im quiet, well be quiet", soon enough shell be create trained , we had to do it for my doberman, yes it gets sooooo annouing and even louder sometimes but if you keep tak8ng doggo out when she barks shell always bark , i hope this helps

Don’t cage the poor baby. Why have a dog to be caged. Love it and cuddle it

keep to crate training! I recommend cover the crate completely especially when youre leaving, and play either calming puppy music or some type of background noise. And get a snuggle puppy plush! it takes time but it does work. I also recommend keeping ur puppy in their crate and walk around and do your chores/etc with them watching. if the whining is to much you can put headphones on but it helps your puppy learn to relax in their crate

I’ve had three dachshunds, never crated them. Ever. These are incredibly social animals and they have tiny little bladders and if they’re home alone all day, leave pee pads out. It’s just a part of being a pet parent. This is really sad and I feel really sorry for that puppy.

Have you tried putting a cover on it? Pup is doing this because it wants to be with you so if you cover the crate up, it sort of creates more of a “this is a safe space” thing than a confinement. We also fed our dog treats and food exclusively in the crate. Took about a month to get her to stop.

As an owner of 3 dachshunds, please please for the love of God, do NOT listen to some of these people saying to get rid of the kennel, let her sleep with you or to use puppy pads. Your dog will eventually get use to the kennel, he/she will just have to suck it up. Cover the kennel & give them a treat when you put them in the kennel. Avoid puppy pads around the house at all times. Puppy pads will just encourage her & make her think it’s okay to use it in the house. If she is not fully potty trained she will use it in your bed if you let her sleep with you. Mine are fully potty trained & they still sleep in a kennel at night (they absolutely do not mind & hop right in when I tell them that it’s mimi time). I’d recommend joining a group on Facebook to ask for advise from actual dachshund owners

Sooo many things. Cover the crate entirely with a blanket. Start feeding her/ treats in there. Immediately will associate with good vibes and calm. Don’t let her see you

Ours goes in a kennel when we aren’t home. I do treats. Everytime she goes in she gets a treat. Took a week for her to learn it’s a safe place. Now when I say “kennels” she immediately goes in. And she was 10 when we started so she picked it up as an old dog

Those little doggies want to be with you they want to be by your side. They want to be in your bed. They want to be on your lap. There are the sweetest dogs ever.
