@oak.moon.home: My first thought was "unclean." I was wrong — but the question was real. Where does the outside end in YOUR house? 🚪 #japandi #genkan #japanesehome #entryway #homedecor
Look - a lot of older people were shoes inside because they can't walk well without them. Don't be surprised when people in your take it up in their 70s and 80s

The door. In Canada, most people take their shoes off. We might allow guests to keep them though. In the winter, you might even have to remove your boots in public spaces because the salt used to melt ice in the streets is very damaging to wood. I like to walk barefoot on a clean floor.

Mine is at the front door, with my shoes — I grew up with a genkan, so the line was literally built into the floor. Where's yours? The door, the shower, or the moment you finally sit down? 🚪

Front door, just outside if possible otherwise on the mat/shoe rack just inside. If your feet are cold, change socks and put woolly socks on or cosy slippers. I’ve been in Australia since 2008 and no shoes inside was a reverse culture shock lol
