Because people who have not been overweight while pregnant have not had the same medical and nutritional advice. I have a high bmi and pregnant. My doctors advice is to remain weight neutral. Our body composition is different to people with a lower bmi, and the baby can use the extra stores you have. I was told not to go hungry but also try and not gain weight and eat healthy nutritious meals.

Because the negative effects of eating “junk food” is not anywhere near the negative effects of a baby not having the nutrition needed while growing. So not gaining any weight means losing weight while pregnant since the baby, placenta, and amniotic fluid will weigh what they weigh. So it would be purposely not giving yourself enough nutrition to survive while you are growing a baby. I will say as someone who gained over 50lbs, it’s not celebrated, my weight stayed because I was breastfeeding and still hungry, but also when my baby started full solid meals I lost the extra weight in 3 months because my hunger dropped and my weight balanced back out. Disordered eating is dangerous but restrictive disordered eating is literally one of the deadliest diseases. Trying to lose weight during pregnancy isn’t a healthy choice, binge eating during pregnancy isn’t a healthy choice, one has more negative potential outcomes than the other.

Everyone saying this isn’t true is misunderstanding her. How many videos do you see of women hitting fast food to satisfy a craving? How often have we all heard the stories of women sending their husbands out at 2am to pick up a craving? It’s a silly goofy thing and it almost common practice. America celebrates eating, that’s not even a debate. And then women suffer HORRIBLE postpartum depression and we’re like “here medicate” not, “hey here’s a preventative measure you can take” (aka, eat well and workout). I hear you girl, it’s real.

I have never seen or even heard of what you’re talking about… shame around gaining weight is probably the most prevalent experience all pregnant people have. Maybe it’s geographic or culturally based? Perhaps it’s your social circle?

Personally I’ve never seen what you’re describing. I gained 50 lbs without eating based on cravings and while being intentional about diet and health. I never was ridiculed for making healthy choices but was regularly told I must not be healthy enough since I gained weight

Anyone who has never been overweight with a bmi over 35 and pregnant really can’t relate.. even doctors have a different “weight gain” goal for those with a lower bmi vs a high bmi. If you watch her videos she tries to reach 3000 cals a day she may not always meet it but if that’s the goal tell me how she is not giving her baby proper nutrition? She’s not starving.. the baby is not starving she’s receiving prenatal care so obviously if there was an issue she would be aware of it.

Its not celebrated. Doctors do tell you, you only need around 300kcal starting THE SECOND trimester. Thats a half a cup of nuts. Not 4 pizzas. Nobody is celebrating it.

It’s only “celebrated” and accepted by society and women… but in reality, no doctor, medical resource, pregnancy literature anything will ever support excessive eating and being sedentary. QUITE the opposite. It’s 350-450 extra calories in 2/3 trimesters and minimum of 30 minutes of exercise a day. Somehow women online and in society have created a total opposite narrative and if you challenge that, because it’s unhealthy, you’re somehow shaming someone? Very odd

is it a US thing, cause in the UK its a constant thing of judgement if anything you put un your body is unhealthy because "what about the baby". if youre craving sweet things or take out then its shameful because of baby and its really pushed to eat clean and if you crave something healthy then your applauded

I think it’s only accepted if you’re “skinny pregnant” but if you’re a little bigger (like me) people wanna say “oh should be eating that?” And it’s literally a burger. 😩

It’s not celebrated or accepted. When you’re pregnant you should have an extra 250 calories, which is 1/2 a turkey sandwich

Literally! I hate the “just listen to your body” narrative. Listening to my body led me to become obese so I’m certainly not going to listen to it during the most fragile time of my health! 😭

Mama, I totally support your journey! But I haven’t experienced this “social acceptance” of eating like crazy. I feel like it’s the total opposite. I’m from CA so maybe that has to do with it? But it’s the total opposite here!!

I usually crave things like fish, fresh fruit or veggies. Very rarely craved fast food. So I’m not sure why it’s being celebrated. I’m pregnant with my second and all I crave is yellow kiwis and oatmeal, while with my first it was salmon and steak

Why are we judging what women are eating while pregnant? Pregnancy is hard so I’m gonna enjoy my slurpees and snacky snacks. I’m not binge eating and I’m eating whole food meals so I don’t see a problem 🤷‍♀️I’m currently 28 weeks and I started at 165, now I’ve been bouncing in between 193-198 for the last 6-8 weeks.
