I love the movie and book. It was written during the Vietnam war draft and stephen king was drafted (unable to serve due to some medical issues) and it really shows. Richard Harkness is the stephen king self insert character and he doesn’t live very long in the game.

It’s a short story not a book. I read it when I was like 15 and it’s stuck with me forever the story it’s only like seven pages long.

When I read the story years ago, I thought that it would never be made into a film because there's no way to show what the main character was thinking. While the film was ok, it failed in that regard, as all Stephen King adaptations do.

That is mind blowing how you correlate capitalism with the movie. I have not seen the movie thinking about seeing it after checking reviews.There’s no way out of the system but death🥺. When people speak out change don’t happen since they are silenced. When people fight against the system they lose everything…at times their life, sadly some take their own life. It’s like being in prison serving a life sentence with no parole no way out only death.

it's not always them thinking they have a boot on the necks of people under them, in spite of having a boot on their own neck.. a lot of times they are simply just petrified of going against people who they see as stronger than them. they obey orders because they are scared.
