If aggressive and painful treatment doesn't extend someone's life meaningfully, I believe palliative care is better. Comfortable until the inevitable end. Rather than suffer to the end.

my great aunt thought the same. made it to 91, beat cancer twice already, they told her they found an 11 cm long lump of cancer, she said "i dont wanna do chemo again. ill die after christmas". she was right.

Three years ago, my grandfather was diagnosed with stomach cancer and had his entire stomach removed. Our family kept going back and forth between chemotherapy and conservative treatment because the chemotherapy was just too painful for him. And now, three years later, his cancer has recurred and he has new tumors. The doctors told us he probably only has about three months left. Given his age right now, a single round of chemotherapy would basically be the same as killing him. So, we just have to face this reality.

My grandpa was 89 when he suddenly developed lung cancer. Took 3 months to get diagnosed. The doctors thought it TB/pneumonia because he kept coughing. Only after 3 months while he was in critical condition did they find out he had an aggressive form of lung cancer, Small cell lung cancer. Died the next month. So he had 4 months where he went from healthy to dead
