90% of the time that I go to Reddit I'm following a link from Google -either a traditional link or the link provided within the AI summary. I would guess that a large percentage of Reddit traffic is directly from a link provided by Google.

Plus if all of it gets packaged by AI summary. There’s no feedback loop anymore. No one gets to contribute to Reddit anymore and share their experiences, throughts, and information. Reddit loses value over time with that.

I think a renegotiation could be compelling. Reddit is recognizing that its data is becoming more valuable, and if AI platforms increasingly depend on Reddit’s content, its pricing power should improve over time. Hopefully both platforms can find a middle ground that preserves search traffic while allowing Reddit to monetize its data through higher-value licensing agreements. I agree it’s really a double-edged sword. 🤞
