The whole “america latina menos argentina” makes 0 sense to me as an argentino. Like we are the first country welcoming all of them into our universities, health centers and healt systems without questioning where they are from. When there are problems in chile because of hearthquakes we always help, our Med schools are full of brazilians and our engineering schools are full of inmigrants too. Yet because of some random trolls on the internet who like to be racist and xenophobic AF we are suddenly the bad guys. Americans are trying to lecture US on our history when we know it perfectly well and we do not ommit the part in which we tried to whiten our civilization. I am argentinian, queer and mixed btw. From a small town. We do not have a problem of racism, we have a problem of classism. And that’s more obvious when you spend some time in there, saying this as someone who lives in portugal now and i notice the same issues in here too. People hate on argentina because we don’t vow down, never, and we keep our chin up all the time. Proud of our culture and our nation despite undergoing a huge economic crisis. Other countries cannot say the same! Thanks! And if yall are gonna come in here to hate on me, do not even bother.

The Anti-Argentina hate is actually terrifying and it just shows how easy it is for people to develop xenophobia. It actually hurts so much to see and it’s not okay, all the people calling Argentina racist and at the same time being incredibly xenophobic and hateful towards them.

Thank you so much for this! Obviously, Argentina has a lot to reflect on regarding our history and racism. But fortunately, we have our own ability to acknowledge our problems, along with millions of people and activists who work every day to fight against all forms of injustice. We don’t need countries from the Global North imposing their own frameworks to understand and transform our reality. Also, it’s astonishing to see people Europe or the US, who claim to be woke or anti-racist, denying the existence of Afro-Argentines and Indigenous Argentines and spreading stereotypes, misinformation, and xenophobia toward a Latin American country. The irony is hard to miss.
