My relationship was even worse than I ever really realized . I knew something was off but now, after leaving - in only 6 months I’ve gained to much clarity … I’m now realizing how abusive and chaotic it was .

Mine said to other people that I’m so stupid. And that he is always the smartest, whoever he meets. And I think he genuinely didn’t understand that I understood so much of his lies and manipulation. But I am one kind of stupid: I stupidly thought he deserved yet another chance, way too many times. However I think it’s very hard for us to analyze their way of thinking because their brains are so fundamentally broken that the fantasy world they live in is totally real to them. They lie so convincingly because they believe the lie themselves - at the same time as they know it’s not true. Something that this very hard for us to internalize.

They know what they are doing. Before they targeted you, they studied you really well. They used everything they learned so they could abuse you really well.

They can be extremely self-aware, but still have blind spots. A lot of their behaviours may be so deeply ingrained and automatic that they don’t consciously recognise them in the moment. This can make their awareness seem inconsistent: they may understand and acknowledge certain patterns afterwards, but still struggle to notice or interrupt them while they are happening.
