Clark’s character is so interesting. Clark represents the individuals that don’t want to change in an ever changing world. He has been alone for all this time because he hurts others before they hurt him. He thinks everyone else as the problem except himself. Yea his stressful circumstances and failing marriage caused him to find comfort in the backrooms. The place remembered him (captain clark) unlike those in the outside world as shown by Clark not having a wanted poster in the backrooms. It was a safe haven for him because it never changes. The everlasting rooms and compartments gave Clark something to look forward too in his miserable life. This comfort eventually led to his demise because when he was confronted by Mary about his problems of always blaming the next thing, he admits that he doesn’t want to change. He feels safe in the backrooms and he accepts that he is the problem. This leads to captain Clark consuming Clark because he finally viewed himself as the underlying issue. Captain Clark is a projection of Clark so he attacks those that Clark views as problem; as seen when the still life projection of Clark’s wife ran away when captain Clark arrived to the dinner table. Captain Clark believed that he had to hurt Clark before he hurt him. It viewed everyone as the problem just like how Clark viewed everyone as the problem in his own life. Staying in the backrooms felt like the perfect scenario for Clark; he never has to change for the people around him. But your deepest aren’t always beneficial for your well being. I absolutely loved this movie man
