A COURTESY VISIT TO HRM OBA OMOWONILUOLA OYEYODE OYESOSIN II, THE OGIYAN OF EJIGBO Wednesday, 22nd July, 2026 I had the honour of paying a courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty, Oba Omowoniluola Oyeyode Oyesosin II, the Ogiyan of Ejigbo, on Wednesday, 22nd July, 2026. According to our royal oral tradition, Akinoruja, the progenitor of the Akirè-Ilé dynasty, was the elder brother of Akinjole, the founder of Ejigbo. Both princes were descendants of Oduduwa and shared the same ancestral lineage. The tradition further holds that the two brothers departed Ile-Ife alongside Prince Oranmiyan sometime around the 14th or 15th century, during the great Yoruba migrations, to establish their own settlements and kingdoms. This shared ancestry establishes a profound historical and fraternal bond between Ìkirè-Ilé and Ejigbo. The fact that Akinoruja, the elder brother, founded Ìkirè-Ilé, while his younger brother, Akinjole, founded Ejigbo, makes the relationship between our two kingdoms particularly significant and worthy of preservation for generations to come. Their shared origins also underscore the antiquity of both kingdoms, whose histories are deeply rooted in the formative period of Yoruba civilisation and, according to our oral traditions, are contemporaneous with the historical era associated with the Old Oyo Empire. The visit was therefore more than a mere courtesy call; it was a reaffirmation of our shared ancestry, enduring cultural ties, and the bonds of brotherhood between our two ancient Yoruba kingdoms. It was indeed a memorable occasion of royal fellowship, mutual respect, and the celebration of our rich and enduring heritage. His Royal Majesty, Ọba Abdulazeez Olatunbosun Adebamiji The Akirè of Ìkirè-Ilé Kingdom Ola-Oluwa Local Government Osun State, Nigeria 23rd July, 2026
