yen binh thoi la du :
Spending >~10 years rotting as a social outcast in the darkest corners of the internet created deeply ingrained cognitive pathways within his psyche. This was the darkest chapter of his existence, and it established a mental rut that is nearly impossible to erase overnight.Consider the reformed criminal analogy: if a formerly bloodthirsty criminal completely turns his life around, becomes a saint, and dedicates himself to helping the community, it does not mean his old, violent psychological impulses instantly vanish from his brain. Those ugly, chaotic thoughts will still flash across his mind as a reflex of his past habit. What matters—and what defines his morality—is how he chooses to react to those thoughts. Rudeus experiences these perverted impulses, but his conscious mind immediately overrides them with restraint, guilt, and an immense sense of responsibility. He forces himself to act with honor, protect his family, and treat women with genuine respect. He actively fights the war against his own past self every single day, thats definitely a good point that VERY MANY PEOPLE MISSED

Someone literally asked me the same question on a live today. And I told him I wasn’t sure I knew the answer, but as long as they became a good person, doesn’t matter? I think I’ll make a video about it as well thank you.

I would agree, but rudeus doesn't change enough in terms of his perversion for that to land properly.

I have many videos about how one of the main themes of Mushoku Tensei is people can change. So I guess I kind of agree with it.

Its not true, but for Rudeus' case, change is indeed more important than redemption, because his focuses was just changing himself and live a better life that he couldnt achieve in his past life, he doesnt want to redeem anything because he was scared to looking back to his past, he doesnt want to face his own past so he just kept it for himself and keep changing his former self, but still his past thought/memory is a burden that holding his change and he cannot do anything but just holding it, why? because he's scared to face his past, and why is he scared to face his past?, because he still has the mindset of a 34y.o Hikikomori stuck in his brain.

He doesn’t change the types of things in his character that people find unsavory. Like Rudeus changes mostly as a function of time and of support and found family, but he doesn’t fundamentally change as a person when it comes to his perversion. And that’s what people don’t like is his perversion

the fact that people are arguing and thinking this hard about rudeus’s journey means mt’s already accomplished what it’s trying to do

they saying rudeus doesn't change is just dishonest, saying the same thing over and over again doesn't make it true, a bum who is rock bottom to a father who would sacrifice his life for his children is not a change what is

For it's simple Rudeus isn't bad person however he's not good person either, I would never try to justify or accept the things he's done and I wouldn't consider him a hero

I can lowkey see the message what is the point of redemption if you don’t change but you can change for the better without being punished I see both sides tho

izumi the cow :
you cannot redeem yourself if you don't change therefore it's weird to say that change is more important then redemption, change is part of redemption, punishment is only a tool to change people it's not the solution, if they changed they may have still not redeemed themselves but if they did redeem themselves they definitely changed.

depends on what kind of change for example like in mushoku tensei the change of rudeus doesn’t outweigh the redemption

Because his punishment was already shown ever since the beginning. He would carry his horrendous past with himself as he lived forever

"change is more important than redemption" but people only change when they are punished for their actions, 'there's no need to change if there's no bad consequences for your actions',
that's why Rudeus pervert mindset doesn't change, he was rewarded for it even. Rudues only change his other flaws because he is punished for it, by feeling depressed, lonely, hopeless, and losing his family and friends, and even being hated for it.

Consequences are important to promote change. Without consequences people typically do not change.
