@craycrayglitterbug: Percy was having a bad time in MoA. His mental health is so obviously poor the whole time. He even takes Octavian off gaurd by saying "tempting" when Octavian threatens to kill him. He doesn't feel confident in his powers, Annabeth is distant because of her upcoming quest with the Mark of Athena, he has imposter syndrome and literally says he thinks his fear of suffocation stems from him feeling like he's drowning in people's expectations of him, his anxiety is sky high, he hates the idea of letting go control and allowing someone else to protect him, he feels inferior and like he's not doing enough, even when a plan of his is successful he can't feel good about it because he lost more confidence in something he was supposed to be great at, he also hasn't been home in months and hasn't seen his mom either and all of this is BEFORE he goes through hell so I can't imagine where his head is at after Tartarus when all of his focus isn't on survival and getting to the doors of death and closing them anymore. All that shit was bound to catch up with him I mean he literally jumped into POISON and thought he deserved to die like that, and that's only what he was willing to tell someone else (because we know Percy does not talk about his feelings)
