telemachus didn't find his father, though. Odysseus found him. had he waited a few extra days they would have found each other. who TF knows with Homer, but I don't think 'the gods' in this adaptation are literal, they're thematic ideas. that's why we only ever see confirmed gods as emotional stress manifested. the whole point of Homer's tragic hero is that he never learns his lesson; he gets into all that trouble bc "he defies the gods" which is an archaic way of saying 'hubris.' Athena's visions are Odysseus higher self trying to calm his ego, but he never listens. even at the very end, after all that death, he still follows his ego. the end of their civilization isn't bc we all keep breaking Zeus law (some placeholder for pascals wager) or bc some sea people are showing up, it's bc they ALL refuse to accept their fate and keep following ambition to destruction

when Odysseus sees and talks to Athena, does the other people around him sees her too? or only ody sees and talk to her? do people see ody talk to air? if you break it down, it would mean that the gods are just these people's imagination.
