I actually thought the laestrygonian scene was kind of funny because they are more “large human” than monstrous giants. I like the idea that a group of soldiers was chilling in the woods and then saw a group of tiny soldiers and just instantly decided to kill them all, no attempts to talk or anything.

The laestrygonian’s scene is just rich with implicit narrative, their armor illustrating the bronze age collapse after the victory of troy, their viciousness and rabidness alongside total might. Really just a mirror for odysseus and their injustices at troy

Odysseus did not push Sinnon to be the person to stay behind he actively says “why did you have to be the one to volunteer” I still definitely see the parallel here between odysseus and the giants and Antinous. I think it was to show that Odysseus didn’t enjoy having Sinnon be the one to stay behind but he still allowed it. When faced with the Giants he sees this child participating in a Trap and combat while the child also relishes in it. It is a level of barbarity to mirror the shame he feels in failing Sinnon. It is a level of barbarity he feels he committed himself.

It’s a tiny, insignificant nitpick I have when they say, “if that’s a child, what do the adults look like?” Because I think it would’ve been better to let the audience come up with that realization without being told. Amazing movie though.

Another incredible video Lucky!!! The Laestrygonian scene was among my favorites. To think they were using some movie magic too! (A shorter woman stunt double for Matt and 6 foot tall soldiers!) The child before the battle did confuse me but your analysis makes such great sense.

I mean, considering Odysseus is a liar (I don't say this as an insult, it's just an adjective he is given multiple times) , it makes sense he wouldn't immediately be irked by some deceit/foul play. Antinous did say he'd feed the father, which Odysseus considered somewhat fair. he only looks pissed after he realizes Antinous didn't honor the wish of a child he indirectly sent to d1e
