@kellycnctue: 𝗡𝗼𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆 𝗷𝘂𝗺𝗽𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗮 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝘀𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 — 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗷𝘂𝗺𝗽 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻. The jump has one purpose: it buys you height so you can take the ball out in front and angle it steeply into the floor instead of flat into the net. If your feet stay planted you are hitting up at the ball, and that is how easy overheads sail long or sit up for a counter. It starts long before you leave the ground. The instant the lob goes up she turns sideways, points her free hand at the ball to track the drop, and loads the back leg. Side-on and under it, not square and behind it. Then explode up, reach to full stretch, and let the wrist snap over the top of the ball at the highest point you can reach. The power lives in the shoulder turn and that snap, not in a huge arm swing. Land balanced and slightly forward; if you drift backwards you took the ball too late. Groove it in two steps: shadow the turn and jump with no ball until it feels smooth, then feed yourself gentle lobs and hit at seventy percent while keeping the landing quiet. Control first, power later. Be honest, which part leaks the most points on your smash right now, the turn, the timing, or the wrist snap?
