actually indonesian is much more complex than most ppl thought, the use of "nya" imbuhan "ke-an", etc are actually pretty hard to understand for most rookie learner

it's not Indonesian Riau, but Malay Riau (Melayu Riau) from Indonesia. Indonesian language is derived from Riau dialect, not the vice versa.

Wait, isn't riau basically Malay? If so, this language is spoken by not a million, but rather hundreds of millions. I speak this language too. But in formal speak the verb or noun confusion doesn't happen because of grammatical prefixes or suffixes. Only in informal speak do we drop the pre and suffix where context gives more meaning. The best example is not "Ayam Makan" , but rather "goreng pisang" which is often used interchangeably as the act of frying bananas or banana fritters.

malay riau… also. it is an overstating. it is flexible yes, but only in spoken form. that is why, in the standardised version it doesnt work the same way. the flexibility is the reason why it is adapted to Bahasa Indonesia, since the region has so many dialects and different grammars to adapt too. but yea no, ayam makan wont mean someone is eating the chicken nor chicken is eating.

Ayam makan only has one meaning: Chicken eats. Ayam dimakan : Chicken is eaten Ayam memakan: Chicken is eating Makan ayam: eats chicken memakan ayam: eats chicken Prepositions and affixes on verbs change the meaning.

Even Indonesia's national language, Bahasa Indonesia, does not have grammatical tenses. A sentence like "Saya makan nasi" can mean "I ate rice," "I eat rice," or "I will eat rice," depending entirely on the context. The time of the action is indicated simply by adding a time expression. For example: Kemarin saya makan nasi- I ate rice yesterday. Tadi pagi saya makan nasi- I ate rice this morning. Saya sedang makan nasi- I am eating rice. Besok pagi saya akan makan nasi- Iwill eat rice tomorrow morning. In other words, it is the time expression, not a change in the verb itself, that tells you whether the action happened in the past, is happening now, or will happen in the future.

“Ayam makan bumbu kecap”is a food, “ayam makan beras” is an activity whereas a chicken doing things, “ada ayam makan di meja” is someone telling there’s a fried/grilled chicken on the table for you to eat
