In my old school (which I left bc of this) we had the dumb yonder pouches and a girl had a really bad seizure in the bathroom on one of the last days of school so half of the teachers weren’t there so her friend literally and to run all the way to the office because not even the teachers where allowed on their phones to get someone to call 911. It would’ve turned out so much better if the girls friend could’ve called 911 immediately

If this was about social media they'd have banned phones when I was in school 10 years ago. They're banning phones because kids have started using them to record abuse and expose dangerous schools

As someone who had and has no friends, phones being banned was genuinely a nightmare and I had absolutely nothing to do. Phone bans kinda just punish you if you don’t have friends or quick hobbies you can take with you

dude i live in the midwest and have VERY bad anxiety around severe weather like thunderstorms and tornadoes. one time before 1st period, the sky was LITERALLY pitch black and sirens were going off left and right, i was bawling bc i was so worried about my mom and my cats and everything i love. im so grateful to my math teacher for allowing me to message my mom because if i didnt, i wouldnt have been able to focus for the rest of the hour.

the WORLD isn't safe enough for kids to be at schools without their phones, especially now. I'm constantly worried that one day I'll get a call from my sister or a family friend saying that my parents were taken. Not to mention, the constant worry of the students themselves that someone with a weapon got into the school.

I have almost had to call the suicide hotline twice in school. The only reason I was didn’t was because I was able to talk to my dad. If I hadn’t had my phone I would be dead on the school bathroom floor.

I have Bluetooth headphones that connect to my phone and I wear them in class. we have phone caddies so my phone was put away. I got a call and I only knew I got a call was because i could hear it with my headphones (which most teachers forbid). when I got up and went to my phone, my dad and my best friends mom were saying how the school had gotten a bomb threat online. the kid had a picture of the weapon and the name of my school. I wouldn’t have known if not for my headphones.

the amount of times I needed to go home and school wouldn't call my parents so I called them myself and got to go home because they cant turn parents requesting their child away was absolutely astronomical. just because my attendance is shit doesn't mean I dont need to go home.

I honestly think children in secondary school should be allowed on their phones even if it’s in a certain part of their school. It might help people who don’t have any friends due to mental health struggles and could help them come to school and be able to enjoy their breaks too instead of sitting alone without being able to entertain themselves or talk to anyone
