In his closing argument today, attorney Brian Panish suggested jurors agree on at least $21 million in punitive damages in the Iskanders' wrongful death lawsuit against Rebecca Grossman and Scott Erickson. Grossman, who hit and killed Mark and Jacob Iskander with her Mercedes-Benz AMG in 2020, deserves $20 million, and retired Major League Baseball pitcher Scott Erickson deserves $1 million, Panish said. Erickson was speeding near Grossman when she struck the boys in a crosswalk in Westlake Village, California, and witnesses said he and Grossman were racing. Jurors on June 2 said Erickson and Grossman are liable for $176 in compensatory damages. Panish said in his closing argument in the punitive damages phase today (Tuesday, June 9) that the defense is: "going to get up here, and they're going to tell you some low numbers, and I'm going to get back, and I'm going to respond, and it's not going to take long." "It's clear you all got it. Appreciate your time. Thank you," Panish said. Wiped out by decisions made by people that think they can do whatever they want, and that's what they did," said Panish, a nationally prominent trial lawyer who has secured some of the largest personal injury verdicts in the United States. He said the jurors "are the only ones that can set it straight for them, and say, 'Hey, we're not accepting that kind of conduct in our society. We're not letting people drunk drive. We're not letting people speed and race and kill people.' "He said Erickson and Grossman "deserve each other because they're both the same kind of person." "They both engage in the same kind of egregious conduct, and they both should be punished significantly, and I know that you know it too, and you're going to get it, and with that, I'm going to be done. I don't think it's going to take long, but thank you for your time. Hopefully, we get to talk when the case is over, and I appreciate you listening to me," Panish said. #law #court #personalinjury
