First, you had to find the tape, hope it wasn’t tangled, and then somehow come up with a mountain of D batteries just to get the music started. She thought she only needed a few. Then she opened the battery compartment. Suddenly, the bedroom looked like the battery aisle had exploded, the shopping bags were empty, and that massive boombox was still asking for more. At that point, buying batteries probably cost more than the stereo itself. But when the music finally started, it was worth every battery, every dollar, and every trip back to the store.
