This is also why Gohan failed against Cell, Goku's plan was almost perfect but he didn't account for the fact that for Gohan would have to lose control. That's what gave Cell the opportunity to capitalise on Gohan's mistakes.

I think you might be lost in the weeds of why people say goku was "forced" to kill frieza, frieza attacking him here didnt physically force him to act against frieza but it did prove to goku that frieza was completely irredeemable which is why he makes the meloncholy expression, not saying your point has no merits your almost certainly correct about goku being so overwhelmed by anger causing him to knock frieza into his own attack but even if he didnt do that i still believe goku would show mercy and give energy to a depleted frieza having practically the same events play out

I don’t agree entirely, I it comes back to what android 8 told Goku. I think there is a mix of sadness in the anger but the anger did overcome the other emotions. Whether he didn’t have to kill him or not doesn’t matter, I think it would’ve made no sense if he just left him on the planet when he was in this ssj rage. Dragonball is amazing

That's definitely an interesting perspective, but Goku being "forced" to kill Frieza is the thematic conclusion to the development he's been through since Raditz came to earth. The idea that he can't control himself in the Super Sayain state is too much of a recent addition in the arc to attribute to that conclusion. it's more likely that Goku couldn't control his power rather than his intent, that's also a part of the lesson during his training with Gohan

I think Goku had decent control over himself, good enough for him to be able to tell Frieza that he wants to fight him at his best, Goku is susceptible to anger and is perfectly capable of killing, look what he did to the RR Army. I always saw this as Goku saw there was no other way, Frieza was going to either kill him or die. He used his energy to try the latter. So instead of letting Frieza slowly die. He calls him a fool for denying the blessing in front of him. And puts Frieza out of his misery.
