@art_rki: I’ve been thinking about how rarely we let art be in charge anymore. We rush through museums, skim books, half-watch films while checking our phones, always trying to get to the next thing. Every once in a while, I think it’s worth letting a painting, a novel, a photograph, or a movie set the pace instead. Deep looking isn’t really about looking at all. It’s about giving something enough of your attention that it has a chance to change you. #ArtTok #ArtCollecting #ArtBooks #Cinema #ArtMuseum

Have you heard of print clubs? I think it’s the best way to unplug, interact with artwork and the artist and break into building a small collection 🥰 I’m an artist with a monthly print club and it’s my favorite way to tell the stories behind a painting, and create a full experience with a playlist, a sticker, a limited edition signed and numbered print and a surprise each month!

My parents are art collectors, specifically of Mormon Art. They’ve been collecting for almost 40 years, much of it from friends, and a few years ago sold their collection to a prominent museum in Utah. I grew up in a little nyc apartment surrounded by art, and now I’m starting my own gallery in southern VA. So I can talk a lot about growing up with art in my home, connecting with fine art without having a fine art education/background, and making art part of one’s life and home. I especially love how you make art collecting accessible and approachable in your videos!

I would like if you would collect my art, even if is not your style, that would be really helpful for my art career 🥺

“Spending a few seconds that someone has spent a lifetime creating”. Not a perspective I’ve thought of. I can essentially leave my present and fixate on my art for what feels like forever. One of the only things that holds my attention for more than 60 seconds.

This is exactly what I think about my art or the art I look in others. I don’t push the exposure I am in no hurry to be seen at all. Thank you for sharing the value of the background story, they whys. 👩🏻🎨💎

How can one explain the miracle of picking up a crumpled brown leaf, long past it's beautiful days, laced with holes from being indiscriminately walked on and ground into the earth ...it had one last gift to give to an old worn out soul

Putting on a record on start to finish. Exactly. There are artists that spend hours, days, months focusing on work that we hope resonate with people’s minds and hearts. Give it a moment to soak in.

I may tell you sometime the many small miracles that have occurred that created a lifetime of work ...Rouault 's prints about humanity and war, Dag Hammarskjold book Markings, William Blake, found objects such as this broken crucifix, the artworks were gifts.. I was just the tool, still after 50 years saying and creating things I never dreamed of. My wish is that someone sometime somewhere, will understand and really see, feel , the depth and many many layers and meanings.

I want to add ...I personally believe that beauty, visually engaging is only a way to get you to look ....the more you spend time with a piece it can address deeper and more difficult subjects, deeper understanding of your own inner values, the old saying knowing oneself....

I think a lot about the impact of technology and artificial intelligence on individuals and culture. As I have thought about that deeply over the last several months, I have been paying more and more attention to those experiences that I find disproportionately valuable.
Similarly, I have found the original art piece that my wife and I have collected, and the artwork that she has created, to be not only pleasant background but also a focus for my attention. That is very valuable to me.
I've also recently discovered that, in addition to really enjoying recorded music, I find being deeply immersed in a small concert by local artists and musicians to be a deeply satisfying way to pass an evening. I appreciate your thoughts on this.
