As a therapist, I’ve worked with many Laura‘s and I think your portraying how it started and how she got hooked beautifully. It is so easy several years down the line to be critical of Laura and say why doesn’t she leave and not get interested in how did she get hooked in the first place?

I was Laura. I met my ex when I was a 30 year old vibrant redhead. He was a fire engine red flag from the start. I even had to call the cops on him 9 months into our relationship. I thought he would change for me and he did, for a while. I stayed 9 years, had 3 kids, and went through emotional, financial and sexual abuse. Had to go to a women's shelter. Became a dull, anxious and sad version of myself. Through all of this, my best friend stayed by my side : she was honest, was able to set boundaries for herself, listened, didn't judge and was a HUGE part of why I was able to leave. Your story is on point and is actually my story. ❤️

I’m loving this storyline because it shows how the small red flags turn into larger red flags. I couldn’t figure out why Luke was such a controlling ass hat regarding Laura taking heartburn medication while pregnant and how he seems to know it all. This shows 100% to me, that he has always been a manipulating ass hat and is able to gaslight Laura and causes her to be withdrawn from her friends when she needs them the most.

I find myself SO MAD in the comments about people saying they’d drop Laura as a friend. Like, I hope none of you ever lose a friend to DV and you just couldn’t pick up the last phone call. Alternatively hope none of you are in a bad relationship and your friends disappear on you bc you’ve lost yourself to an evil man. *steps off soapbox*

I get people’s concern, but this feels very realistic. My closest friends have dated, or even married some TRASH people. I always expressed my concern, especially in the beginning. But, ultimately, it’s their life & their decision & I will bite my tongue & bide my time until the bullshit has gotten so out of hand that I can’t be their friend anymore or they finally free themselves & I can help pick up the pieces.
