Make sure you save this post for the next time you’re having a bad dyslexic day I’ve learnt that Dyslexia can be an unpredictable beast AND with the best strategies and well in the world some days I’m just more dyslexic than others! My clients have so discovered this too, and it’s about recognising this and learning to work with it rather than against it! Here are five things I don’t do on a dyslexic day and why! 1. I don’t write the whole day off! There are things I can do and I will look at rearranging and prioritising my list and find the things that I can do where I can experience success! This stops me from burning myself out but also helps keep confidence high! 2. I don’t attempt anything new! This is because learning anything new needs me to be on top form it needs my working memory and processing to be in a good place and I need to feel resilient! A dyslexic Day is not going to support any of those things… so attempting to do something new on a dyslexic day, we’ll see more mistakes and more failure I will end up having a negative effect long term! 3. I don’t push to complete my to-do list. On a dyslexic day, I’m definitely not gonna be as efficient and if I try to push through my to-do list, I’ll just make more dyslexic mistakes and end up having to redo lots of the work. I’m better off waiting until Dyslexia has passed. 4. I don’t tell myself I’m stupid or incapable or measure tomorrow success on today. Dyslexia has got nothing to do with my potential or ability. It’s literally to do with how my brain processes the information sometimes I can control it sometimes I can’t accepting understanding and working with this is key. 5. I don’t allow myself to look at what other people are doing or compare myself to others. On a bad day, I really don’t need to know what others are doing. It’s not gonna make me feel good. I just need to very much stay in my own lane and run my own race.
