I think, too, as female performers age, become survivors of their own fame & circumstances that come with that, they become iconic to those who have also been through struggles. My mom idolized Tina Turner, because she’d survived abusive relationships before she met my dad, not unlike Tina. People in the LGBTQIA community have faced so much, and they can identify with that struggle & triumph.
