I used to volunteer at a therapy riding center we had an old guy that was missing half his teeth so his tongue stuck out. eventually he got to the point he couldn't be ridden anymore and his owners decided they didnt want him back. we couldnt keep a horse that cant be ridden as we dont have that kind of money to just senior care for the horses. he ended up going to a nice family that had a little girl who would bring blankets into his stall to read him stories every night before bed and believed with everything in her if she loved him enough hed never die. he lived another 10 years with her and was the most spoiled rotten horse you've ever seen. he went out in her arms with his head in her lap knowing he was so very loved. last I heard shes got a couple more horses now she shows just as much love care devotion to and she loves to find the horses that others dont want anymore.

Anyone who sells to slaughter are disgusting, especially the ones who sell elderly animals!! Rather than them paying out money to have them euthanised with dignity & familiar people around them they decide to try squeeze out what bit of money they can from the poor animals without a care in the world of the conditions they will be going to, how long they will be there and how they will come to their death. It’s absolutely disgusting. People that sell to slaughter are absolute monsters.

we had a horse that lived to 42. His name was Axel and he was a standard bred. his tongue used to hang out and he used to get some "slop" for his meals that had to be soaked in warm water-or molasses water- he would then fall asleep with his heavy head in your arms. I miss the Old Man
