everyone defending hitting kids when we literally have decades of data showing how terrible it effects children… we truly aren’t ready for this convo

My mom beat the shit out of me and all it taught me was how to run away from home. She almost lost her teaching license because CPS kept getting involved as I got farther and farther away.

parents don't hit to discipline. they hit because they're mad and they want to punish. it's never a logical consequence and does more harm than good.

"it teaches discipline" then why can't teachers do it? why can't people who aren't the child's parents do it? why can't coaches do it? why does every other adult have to use non-violent forms of discipline?

Nooooo it’s teaches kids a form of discipline 😂 if that method works definitely use as a last resort not first

*I think* it depends on the severity and reasoning for the whopping. if your parent has hit you for multiple minutes on end with anything but a soft shoe or hand, that is abusive. they also cannot do it for every single infraction, or youre just hitting them for fun.

This is the logic I used to stop the cycle in my family

So, I might be part of the problem 😅But my parents never told me I was getting hit out of love. I always understood it was because I had done something bad, and made them mad. I also understood parents were only allowed to discipline their children, not other adults (ie each other). I really only got hit once or twice before I realized I’d rather be good so I wouldn’t get in trouble.

that’s a myth actually made by abusers to run from the personal responsibility to unpack and heal from trauma. it’s not an excuse to abuse others at all.

My nephew thought it was fun for him and his friends to jump a girl because she flying him in school. I tore his ass up because you’re not gonna go out here and start the packing women get that extra system right now.

The worst excuse is "I don't know what else to do"
Maybe work on yourself before you have goddamn kids. There's decades of books, media, even classes that tell you what to do without messing them up.
But no, it's always about the easy route.

I def think it was situational. I only got hit like…. once or twice? But that’s because I already feared my parents. NOW MY BROTHERS? They got their ass beat, but my brother says it made him better? Idk…. life is weird
