so I have watched this show daily since February and read the books numerous times, but in my head with their first hook up in 1410 when Ilya gets his first, and then acts like he's going to leave and Shane gets huffy.... Ilya rolls over and says I would not leave you like that.... and in fact he never did... it makes me smile every time I hear him say that...

One thing that is not discussed is that Shane perceived the rivalry as well - Ilya involving him because they are the rivals that get the game going. They are both #1 and #2. Imo, it’s the revelation of Ilya requesting him that creates suspicion in Shane’s mind regarding Ilya’s interest- he lets his guard down (or up 😭) and the rest is history.

I completely agree. Ilya was feeling him out at first and created every opportunity. Besides a man doesn’t text for two years to bang you and be done. No matter what he told himself that boy was gone after they met.
