The man in that photo is my grandfather David E. Grange Jr. he was a legendary leader who shaped modern ranger training and founded the elite Best Ranger Competition. He served as an instructor later became the became the director of the ranger department at fort Bennington during the 1950’s and 1970’s, acting as a driving force behind the development and perseverance behind the modern ranger training program. Created the annual Best Ranger Competition in 1984 which was later named LTG David E. Grange, Jr. Best Ranger Competition in his honor. His combat history consists of World War II, Korea, and Vietnam.
