I’ve hired military people and they have a lot of strengths, but often struggle in environments where people are actually allowed to quit without going to jail. That’s sort of the thing they don’t understand. If you push people too hard they can go get another job in the civilian world. They also sometimes struggle with ambiguity and have too much of a reliance on structure and process. Those answers weren’t great and in the real world you do have to deal with difficult personalities you collide with in diplomatic ways while accommodating deadlines that do actually change.

Active workplace 🔫 question; what would you do? My reply: attempt to escape & help others evacuate, shelter in place if unable to escape, then finally respond with appropriately aggressively use of nearby tools to secure the threat until law enforcement and EMS arrive. Basically the verbatim military response to active shooters, they did not appreciate the last part of my response and said it was ‘wildly dangerous’ among other things. I was just like…🙂 ‘I’m not getting hired am I?’ 😭 they gave me a card for a therapist and said not unless you get medicated.

The difference is in military you give someone an order and they either follow it or go to prison. In the real world, you give an order and they just ignore it.

I asked my interviewer what was appropriate attire for the workplace. he was like "idk man something to get dirty in". The job was essentially an aircraft mechanic

I completely agree 100%. companies nowadays don't want people to solve problems they want someone to blame and to make excuses

This is pretty legit, though they don't admit it in real life. In the military you fix the problem. In the civilian world you work around the problem. While it takes the credit and gets promoted.

For a lot of people don’t understanding the problem - companies are required to hire certain amount of people by the city. These businesses can’t find five out of five qualified people and also there is not work like that hence they hire sub par workers because that’s just how it is and that’s why the question was how do you work around people with different personalities?

This is an AI story. Hiring managers would like his attitude. The bit about a moved up deadline is hilariously out of sync with the working world.

This is very similar to the problem autistic individuals with interviews. Honesty isn't valued in interviews and that hamstrings the autistic community because we don't understand why someone wouldn't value blunt honesty and clarity

I remember I was asked once in an interview what do you do when deadline shifted people are like hey listen this is urgent This needs to be done right now but you have several other tasks that need to be done quickly too.... I looked at them and was like you just prioritize a new one. And then they were like well what do you do about the other ones, you do those afterwards I said. And like how do you manage all that in your head. I'm like I don't know I just do it, I don't stress out about it because I can only do what I can do so I get help I just buckle down and do it, I don't stress over it because I can only do what I can do
