No shade because I did this for 20 years. What I will say is - if I had to do it all over again, I’d go out more, make more friends, go to school online and find a job for at least one day a week. After 25 years I left my husband because I learned some horrible things he’d been doing (way beyond cheating - I wish it were that!). When you leave after 25 years of being a SAHM your options are severely limited and your circle of friends shrinks. The ones you do have that are SAHMs will slowly shut you out because they don’t want to face the reality of what could happen. It’s ok to put yourself first sometimes, don’t lose yourself caring for everyone else. Your kids will thank you later.

If you enjoy being around your children 24/7 with no break, then have at it. Not every mom has that desire. I love my children to pieces, but I am an introvert who needs time to recharge in silence away from everyone. The toddler years were rough on me because I couldn’t get that needed break, and my mental health suffered. Now that my kids are old enough to not need me every waking minute, I am grateful to be able to leave my older child at home and drop my youngest at day camp and enjoy an afternoon talking with a friend. I don’t need to be the center of their lives 24/7 to be a good parent.
