But then the guy gets the promotion because he worked on the “important” stuff… while she gets to do this for the rest of her career because she’s just SO good at organising

I love that they simultaneously are like “you’re the only one who can do it” and “it’s not that hard.”

so the men are capable of leading client meetings but not capable of organizing lunch? sounds to me that they need to start from the ground up

As a woman working in a male dominated field, I NEVER take notes and NEVER make coffees. I have found ways to avoid it my entire career, even if people have attempted to have me do that. I also never ever participate in cleaning anything. If men can shirk responsibility on these things, so can I. 😂

I am the department Directors Admin Assistant. I end up planning the events because I am good at it and I do enjoy it. But I don’t get coffee (unless it’s for my Director) but I do get noticed by upper Management (our CFO said my meeting was his favorite he’s ever been to). But what gets tiring is when people complain about it. It takes a lot of work and if you don’t like it, you do it.

Take it to HR - manager clearly said that he’s assigned “the guys” to work on the client build while regulating lunch task to OP. If they are all in the same role, she is getting passed up for opportunities that can impact her career because of her gender. Delegate it to an event planner - if it’s a larger company, they actually hire people in house to plan all events.

I saw a pattern that i was always supposed to take minutes during the meetings so I started 'forgetting' my pen and notebook everytime and would walk in saying to the guys, 'ah, you got your notebook! Please take notes for us this time!' they quickly started rotating it. lol.

“Dumb guys can’t organize lunch” gives the same energy as Ryan on the office saying he can’t clean the microwave cause somehow he’d make it worse

Sounds like an opportunity for one of the men to grow his organization skills. Furthermore, the woman with the best organization skills likely needs to run the client project so it has the highest probability of success

she should say "If I didn't work here, who would you get to do it. give it to them"

This is what we call “weaponized incompetence.” It’s a way that women are consistently asked to consider tasks like “logistics” that don’t translate to pay, or titles.

So is he saying the other two male team members aren’t organised? Seems like a development opportunity.

if the boys are not organized enough to handle something like an agenda and lunch and a venue then they shouldn't be working on anything having to do with a serious outcome

The best advice I, a female, ever received came from my male mgr / mentor. I was early 20s and just starting out as a consultant. As I was helping clear up after an office party, he told me to put everything back down bc if I continued to clean up, that’s all the men I worked with would ever see in me.
