@bee.jeweled.coop: I have seen so many stories about chickens struggling in the heat, and the reality is that there is not one quick fix that will keep an entire flock cool. Chickens regulate heat very differently than we do, so their environment needs to help them stay cool throughout the entire day and overnight. 💦 WATER is most important. Make sure to use open water containers and offer plain water alongside water with supplements. I love Happy Hour Hydrate and Coop Clucktail so my flock has options. 😎 Check where the shade falls during the hottest part of the afternoon. Morning shade does not always mean the area will still be protected later in the day. ✨ Keep the coop dry. Wet bedding and manure buildup can increase humidity and make a hot space even hotter. 💨 A coop can hold heat long after the sun goes down, which is why ventilation, cross breeze and our exhaust fan are so important. 🥒 I also offer cucumbers, watermelon and other water rich treats for enrichment and a little additional moisture. The goal is creating an environment where water, shade, dryness and airflow all work together. 🔥 Save this for the next heat wave. #backyardchickens #chickenkeeping #petchickens #heatwave #chickencaretips
