I only somewhat agree in the sense of them suffering medically/physically. BUT aggression can be treated. Reversed, even. But ALL animals deserve love. All of them. No animal should live the last of its days in a cage, scared, pained. Those at the end of their life due to medical issues should be adopted out for free.

We had to have our 7 yo Chorkie, Josie put down last year. Something happened to her and she couldn't walk, without falling down. she would pant constantly and was scared. The vets did not know what to do,besides run tests, that always came back normal. She was suffering and I couldn't watch her suffer anymore. I am thankful for all of your dedication to the animals you care for. You know what you are doing.

This has to be shared with so many volunteers. I learned after six years volunteering, it’s hard but true. Not all animals can be safely placed

my family adopted a cat about 5 years ago.She was sweet at the shelter and when we got her home she wasn't happy. my kids Played with her we brought toys and all. she had it all. she started to swipe and hiss at the kids. unfortunately she bit my son and started to scratch my girls.we had to send her back.

💯 agree with you. We were denied an adoption in a well known NY adoption shelter because our kitty had stomach cancer and we chose to put him down. The shelter said that there were other choices... what? keep him in pain? If adults who can speak talk about how painful stomach cancer is, why would we keep a kitty who cannot say how he's feeling alive? For us? Absolutely not!

I agree with you. Much like people some animals cannot be rehabilitated to be safe with “the public”. And for SURE some animals do not have a quality of life worth living due to medical conditions. I’m 49yo and have had to euthanize 2 VERY LOVED dogs in my lifetime. One had bone cancer and the other had a brain tumor. The second was harder because it was harder to be objective but he told us when it was time. It’s not kind to keep animals or people alive who are just suffering.

My ideal is a world where spay and neuter is always the default for new pet owners, where breeding is only done with careful ethical and medical consideration, where no pets are neglected or abused, but we don't live in that world. Hard decisions have to be made to minimize suffering, usually because of terrible decisions someone else made before we ever even got a chance to care for the animal.

Sadly I agree. I was able to adopt a lab/rottweiler mix. Seemed sweet at the shelter. The day we got him home he attacked me. I’m such a huge animal lover that I tolerated it for years. He attacked many people on my watch. I never had the heart to bring him back because I knew they’d put him down. One of the hardest things I had to do was make that decision. To bring him back. I made them very aware of his issues. I don’t know if the shelter didn’t know of his issues but I can’t imagine it was just coming into my quiet loving home that brought this out of him. But who knows. So I fully agree with you.

I had a friend who worked in rescue who said something similar. I think we all have a soft spot for the underdog (no pun intended) but she put it in a way that made sense to me, which is that every dog that bites that gets adopted is replacing a dog that doesn't in someone's home because there will always be too many dogs.

I 1000% agree with this. No suffering for animals!! And on that thought of not having animals suffer, not all humans qualify to have pets.

All of this!! 🙌🏼 Too many people get stuck on “save them all” and don’t take into consideration the animal’s quality of life or safety of the community. Humane euthanasia is sometimes the kindest, most caring, compassionate, thing we can do for some animals. Forcing animals to live in kennels or crates while they suffer physically and/or mentally is NOT animal welfare. It is NOT helping the animals.

Agree! Fostered and kitten that ended up having behavioral and aggressive issues. I kept him and understood his triggers to avoid a negative outcome for the cat.
