@healingwithemilyg: My relationships improved when I stopped asking who someone could become and started asking who they’ve consistently shown themselves to be. This doesn’t always mean that you have to go no contact, but it does mean that you can adjust your expectations. #cptsd #traumarecovery #attachmentissues #HealingJourney #childhoodtrauma
It's constantly restarting the grief cycle as u get older after each bout of hope that they can change

the opposite can be almost as bad. every time a friend even slightly fucks up, my brain will assume malicious intent and will go over it again and again until i resent them. it creates emotional distance to protect me from getting hurt, even with generally very good and kind people. conflict is necessary for healthy relationships and because i grew up in a home where every problem was never solved and bringing it up made everything worse, i keep assuming its impossible to solve any emotional problem in my relationships.

I felt like if I could just meet my parents’ needs, they’d finally be ok and could then meet mine (because I assumed benevolent intent).

Damn this me. My dad told me he is starting therapy and I inspired him because I’ve been in therapy so long. That’s good and all, but I’m like 😑😑😑 why do you think I’ve been in therapy so long dad?????

I think a lot of neglected people grieve toxic relationships and when we get to the bargaining phase of that grief, we double back to harmful people because of this, hoping we can change the outcome

Ya, there comes a point when I realized no matter how much effort I put in it was never enough for people that were never going to change in the first place… it was never my fault nor my responsibility to hold everything together

We think we become the batman. With enough time, effort, and information we can prepare enough to solve it.
