My family is deaf - our deaf friends adopted a deaf boy from India and it took them 2 years and 3 physical visits to India before the 4th time of going to get him and bring him back. He had no language access at all and pointed at things and made noises and within 1 year with our friends he was fluently signing and now it’s about 7 years later and he is thriving!!!!

a lot of countries either closed their doors to Americans to adopt or made it harder. there's too many kids who gone missing or killed

I had an employee that wanted to adopt a baby from India. it was a similar problem for him. it was months of proving to courts that he wasn't adopting a baby for sex trafficking purposes. so it's very good that they are doing some checking but it makes it very hard for people who actually want to help.

Im adopting a baby from India and it takes a long time to make sure Im not a bad person or a trafficker and to make sure the child is well placed with me (in that I can suppprt the child). Its been 4 years but its well worth the wait.

not long ago I was a documentary or something about how American families 'rehoming' children they adopted from other countries is a big problem, it's full of abuse and kids go missing all the time, apparently they had Facebook and Yahoo groups for this too, I don't remember which but one site started taking them down and another said they weren't breaking any guidelines

It's because Americans tend to return or rehome them, that's why a lot of countries tend to have a lot of red tapes for US adoption

this is true, my wife and I looked into this as well. If the child has a health issue of some sort then it's way quicker. The reasoning for the long wait time is they say to make sure to prevent child labor or even worse once adopted.
