i did 350 applications last cycle and had a national lab internship lined up but it got cancelled due to doge cuts. i went to fairs, i talked, networked and did everything i was supposed to and still ended up with nothing. some of my friends cold emailed companies and got one after like 3 attempts. to say its not luck based is crazy. Yes, networking increases your chances, but at the end of the day you still have to be in the right places at the right time.

If you aren’t networking, getting internships, earning certificates, building side projects, or doing anything that sets you apart, why should an employer choose you over someone that is? Grades matter but they’re not the only thing employers look at.

I got a 3.6, saw some kid with a company truck from my school, asked if his dad is hiring interns, he said yeah, sent in a resume, and that was that. Talk to people. Boss said he didn’t even open the resume cause the friend vouched.

If they dont have any internships or worthwhile projects Im not surprised at all. Classes don’t get you a job anymore, and while the students bear primary responsibility for resume building and networking while at university, I still sympathize with those who didn’t realize how important those things were in time, particularly first gen students who are often being misinformed

Gpa nowadays don’t actual point that you’re great in school. Universities don’t ever change quizzes/exams questions so students just get all As by copying all the work from a friend that took the same course a previous semester, which sucks.

i got an internship through sheer dumb luck. now that I've got an internship under my belt at least im getting calls back and interviews. I'm a software engineering student with a 3.2 GPA and I'm still able to at least get interviews
