It's actually worse then that. Almost every Forerunner who spoke to the original Gravemind(the Primordial), killed themselves immediately. Turns out, if they infect even your corpse they trap your very soul in a form of hell, a biological version of the Domain where you're being tortured for all eternity, since the entire Flood system is based on neural physics that the Precursor's created.

The flood, as long as there is living life in the galaxy, the flood will always come back if everything dies the flood cease to exist so that is why no universe will be able to survive the flood because no matter what the flood consume everything as long as there is life, the flood consume everything. The flood also would know how to adapt and learn so technically the endless, even though they are immune to the flood eventually, the flood would figure out how to consume them and turn the endless into flood creatures because the flood are highly intelligent. And can adapt and learn about the species because if they learn about the species that species eventually becomes fucked beyond Fuckery because if the flood learn learned about you, you are fucked.
