As estrogen levels decline during menopause, the vaginal tissue can become thinner, drier, and less flexible, a condition known as vaginal atrophy. Starting vaginal estrogen early may help maintain the health of vaginal tissue by improving moisture, preserving elasticity, and reducing symptoms like burning, discomfort, and pain during sex.
