I work in local government and it drives me mad that the public wants to trim govt staff but still wants efficient services at low tax cost. It’s SO much cheaper and more effective to hire people in-house and invest in social infrastructure.

It’s always higher to contract out stuff. Just do it internally. Hire actual workers for permanent roles where they have a vested interest to do good work. A contractor just does a shit job and leaves.

I’ve never understood the bullshit argument to privatize anything when it comes to government. There is very few things that can be done cheaper by private contract. There may be times when it makes more sense to logistics, but rarely I think is that the case when it comes to function. yet, Republicans always always want to privatize everything. But here’s the dirty secret: any privatization adds in a profit margin that would not have been there otherwise

hiring contractors will always cost more than hiring skilled trades people to work for the city. people tend to like working for their city, plus government jobs will never abuse you the same way as private sector.
